Introduction:
The beginning of the center was a department under the Administration of Crime Prevention, Misurata branch. Then, the Addicts Care and Protection Center was established by producing decision No. 13 for the 2015.
The department continued to do its job until it was expanded and transformed into a sanatorium affiliated to the Ministry of Interior, in accordance with the Minister of Interior/ National Salvation Government Decision No. (2116) for the year 2015.
Latterly, the sanatorium was upgraded to become a center for taking care and protecting addicts. This Centre has juridical personality and independent financial disclosure and is affiliated with the Ministry of Interior, pursuant to Ministry of Interior decision No. 15 for the year 2019, and then the Minister of Interior issued a decision No. (2165) for the year 2019 to assign Dr. (Anwar Younes) to be the director of the center.
Center Job:
The center’s main principle is that addiction is not a crime that the addict is punished because of it, but rather a problem that must be addressed and provide support and assistance to those addicts. For this purpose, the center provides comprehensive medical care for people with addiction, and provides them with treatment and psychological support.
Also, the center works to create an integrated treatment environment by building bridges of trust and effective communication with addicted people. moreover, their families are involved in treatment and psychological and societal rehabilitation programs, and encouraging them to understand and contain the condition of those addicts.
Furthermore, the center works on raising awareness of the danger of addiction and launching educational campaigns on warning of the spread of this phenomenon and ways to reduce and prevent it at the psychological, educational, and moral levels, and the importance of encouraging people with addiction to engage in treatment and rehabilitation programs.
The center has a group of specialists in various fields which are directly related to addiction treatment and rehabilitation. Besides, the center seeks to prepare statistics and a database for researchers and scholars in this field, while preserving the privacy of people with addiction and not disclosing their personal data as required by the ethics of the profession.
